New Adjunct Faculty
Our Adjunct Faculty Professional Development Program assists adjunct and part-time instructors with their acclimation to the college community through workshops, pedagogical discussions, and social events where you can explore topics such as curricular development, teaching strategies, and an introduction to various College policies and procedures.
Events are held just prior to the Fall and Spring semesters as well as several evenings during each semester:
Fall and Spring Semester Kick-Offs
Kick-off events provide us with an opportunity to welcome each semester with an evening of food and timely information. Join us as we build relationships in support of student learning and foster a culture of collaboration.

Registration is required. Announcements with details and a link to register will appear in the Employee Tribune a couple weeks before each event. Department adjunct coordinators will also send announcements and reminders through email.
Suppers for Success
As part of the Adjunct Faculty Appreciation Series, the Teaching and Creativity Center invites all adjunct faculty to join us for professional development workshops throughout the year.
All Suppers for Success are in person in Monroe A from 5 to 6:30pm. They are recorded and available in our TCC Video playlist.

New Full-Time Faculty
Your hire letter mentions the required Faculty Orientation and Development Program for all new faculty which takes place during the first two years of employment at MCC. Each year's program is a series of monthly seminars facilitated by MCC’s Teaching & Creativity Center.
First Year Faculty Series
The purpose of this series is to introduce you to the MCC community, offer a supportive environment to help you transition to your new role as a full-time MCC faculty member, and provide professional development to support your on-going growth as an instructor of community college students. During the series, we will help you integrate into the culture at MCC as reflective practitioners. Through this work, you will develop a cohort within the larger MCC community. The meeting agendas will be responsive to the faculty’s changing needs throughout the year. FYFS meets on Fridays once a month from 3 to 5pm.
Second Year Faculty Series
The purpose of the Second Year Faculty Series (SYFS) is to help pre-tenured faculty improve instructional practice and explore and develop college citizenship within a supportive cohort. To do this, we will read the book Small Teaching, learn and apply research-based teaching techniques, explore college structures and resources, and investigate an area of interest. Embedded in all this will be a focus on and commitment to equity and inclusion and meeting the needs of our diverse student body. The expected time commitment for SYFS is similar to an active college-wide committee. SYFS meets on Fridays once a month from 3 to 5pm.
Because two years of new faculty development is a condition of employment, regular attendance is expected. Please plan your schedule accordingly. Your dean and department chair are aware of these dates. Classes, labs, and any other required scheduled activities should not overlap with these dates and times.

Whether you are a new teacher stepping into the classroom for the first time or an experienced professor joining MCC, we encourage you to use the following resources as you begin your time at the college. In addition to the items here, please check with your department chairperson, adjunct coordinator, and mentor for additional suggestions and resources.

Adjunct Faculty Tip sheet
Each department has one or more adjunct coordinators whose role it is to inform you of department procedures and college policies. The Adjunct Faculty tip sheet (which will be updated soon) provides you with a quick list of relevant areas and topics that you can seek more information about.
Faculty Association
The MCC Faculty Association (FA), NYSUT/AFT Local #2842, is the union representing teaching and professional employees at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. Visit the MCC Faculty Association homepage to read the contract and other important information.
